The buzz word Sustainability in basic terms is the ability to exist constantly.
The word Sustainability comes from Sustainable + ity. And Sustainable is a composition of sustain + able. In short sustainability can be termed as the processes by which something is kept at certain level for better tomorrow.
What is Sustainable Development
It means development and growth today without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. That’s why an agenda for 2030 with 17 sustainable goals (SDGs) was adopted by the UN members in 2015. Sustainable development is the most important business of all businesses.
Sustainable Development Goal
The Sustainable Development Goals are a collection of 17 interlinked global goals designed to be a “blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. These 17 goals and the 69 target objectives cover the full spectrum of issues we must address in order to meet the aim of development that protects people and resources both now and in the future.
The SDGs serves as guidelines for businesses to assess and manage Social, Economic and Environmental risk.
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
CSR is a management concept of companies whereby they integrates social and environmental concerns into a business planning and operations. The purpose of CSR is to give back to the community and build a positive brand around their company via philanthropic means, volunteering, awareness sessions and pursuing ethical labor.
Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG)
It refers to a company’s commitment to do more than make a profit. The demand from employees, investors and customers are forcing companies to step us against climate change and social injustice.
While CSR aims to make a business accountable, ESG criteria make its efforts measurable.
